What to Bring to the Dealership when Buying a Car

It is quite exciting to walk inside a car dealership and drive out with a brand-new car. The excitement can fade away if you do not have the right paperwork and the necessary information with you. You should be completely prepared before stepping inside the dealership so that you were ready to drive off the lot.

Here are a few things that you will need to buy a new car.

1. Driver’s License:

The dealership will want to prove that you are a legally licensed driver before purchasing a new car. Do make sure that the license is valid and has not expired. You will require a test drive license, but it might also help you use that as proof of residence and your car loan.

2. Proof of Insurance:

You will require proof of insurance when buying a new car. It is a must in most cities and states. It also helps to speed up the purchasing process. To avoid any delays at the dealership, you can always call the insurance agent beforehand. You can ask them how to remove your old vehicle and add your new vehicle to the existing policy. You must carry your current proof of insurance card to the dealership as well.

3. Form of Payment:

You could be using a check or cash or a loan, but it should be ready. If you are trying to get a loan with the dealership, you must have extra time in your hand because you would be required to handle all the related paperwork. You can always call the dealership beforehand to speak to the financing department to know what documents are required and ask about pre-approved financing.

4. Pay Stubs:

If you plan to get your car by getting a loan through the dealership, you must show your recent employment proof. You can carry some of your recent pay stubs just in case.

5. Credit Score History:

The dealership must access your credit score and history, but you can check it yourself before visiting the dealership.

6. Discount Information:

If you can get a discount from your credit card company or the dealership, or anyone else, make sure you have all the related information and documents to not miss out on the deal. Some offers are available for students or recent graduates. So, make sure to walk through the defined print of the deal so that you completely understand the promotion and all other terms and conditions.

7. List of References:

If you do not have access to some lucrative credit but aim at applying for a loan with the help of the dealership, the chances are that you might have to provide a list of proper references of people who do not reside with you. You can give them names, the contact information of people who can vouch for you, and your business address.
