Black History Month in Clarksville, TN

Black people are an integral part of our American culture. They have not only been the foundation stones to building our society but also sacrificed their lives in our national pursuits. The people of the black community, sadly, do not acquire much attention regularly. Hence, every year, the entire month of February is celebrated as Black History Month in many cities and states.

Clarksville, Tennessee, is no exception to it. Many events are held across several days in the month, acknowledging the inventions, art, and accomplishments, especially those that are indigenous to the city or state.

Here are some of them as follows in order by date.

  • Black History Meet and Greet: It is a voting event scheduled for African American descent people. It allows them to express their opinions.
  • Black History Month Kick-off Luncheon: This event commemorates the history of the black people and tells us how the yearly celebration came into being. It also offers a luncheon to the visitors.
  • First Friday ArtWalk: This event displays the artwork of the African American people of the past. It allows others to partake and relive the black culture of the bygone era. It also features the drawing and painting of Ola, a prodigious Nigerian artist.
  • Weekend wine down: It is an event dedicated to tasting wine showcasing Love Corkscrew, a collection of a female wine merchant Chrishon Lampley.
  • Genealogy classes: Ideally meant for teaching the skills of tracking ancestors, the event can be very exciting and helpful for those who can’t find their ancestors just over a generation or two.
  • “Spill the Tea” Event for the Young Adult: Dedicated to the youth of the American Black community, the event helps them learn new hairdos and styles.
  • African Diaspora dance “Tango”: It is an event in collaboration between the Hispanic Cultural Center and APSU African American Studies. It creates awareness and educates the visitors regarding the slave trade and African Diaspora within Hispanic culture and dance.
