Tips to keep everyone safe this winter

winter

Winter is fast approaching; it’s time to winterize your vehicle, especially when you’ll be out driving long trips to meet your friends and family members this holiday. Freezing climate, icy roads, and snowstorms can be waiting for you on the road. So, getting your car ready to face those situations is extremely crucial.

Take a look at our car winterizing tips:

Check the Wiper Blades and Fluid of Windshield and replace them if needed: If you find that the windshield wipers are exhausted or are more than a year old, change them before winter arrives because a worn or damaged wiper can significantly obstruct your vision. The washer fluid also needs to be replaced too, using a fluid explicitly meant for cold weather will ensure that the fluid won’t get frozen in a chilled climate. Anything obstructing your vision will make dangerous for you and other drivers while you are driving. So, take the necessary precautions.

Battery checking: Excessive cold can bring about a 50% reduction in battery power, so if your battery's age is over four years, a battery replacement is recommended before winter arrives. Also, have your battery tested at the same time to check if it's capable enough to hold a charge.

Tire Checking: The cold can drastically affect your tires; the tire pressure will decrease in excess cold, and your grip and handling will be severely affected while you are on the road. Do a thorough check of your tire depths too, because blunt tires can be highly risky on slippery roads. If you can control your vehicle on slippery roads, then nothing more is safer than this for your well-being.

An emergency kit will be handy: If you, unfortunately, face an accident on the road, an emergency kit can be handy. A few essential things for your kit can be:

  • A first-aid kit
  • A flashlight
  • Jumper cables
  • Warm clothes and a blanket
  • An ice scraper
  • A snowbrush
  • additional windshield wiper fluid.

These things will not only prevent any accidents from happening but will enable you to hit the road as soon as possible.

Defroster and Radiator checking: It can be tough to get a view outside in the morning without the help of a defroster if your whole window is covered by morning frost and ice. The defroster alongside the warmer is basically the means for tackling the chilled weather while you’re driving, so ensure that you’ve checked them to see they are running accurately before the arrival of winter.

Complete vehicle servicing: A full check-up by a professional technician will be ideal to discover all the little fixes essential for improving and maintaining your vehicle's performance in the winter. Whether it's a fluid check, checking the tire pressure, etc., servicing a car at least once a year is the best method to prevent startling incidents or other failures on the road.

With a lot to do during winter, it tends to be difficult to remember just how much you depend on your vehicle until you face some issues. If you follow these tips, it will be easy for you to maintain your vehicle well, and you will remain warm through the cold and harsh winter season.
